Oscar: Akira. I'm looking for something new to add to my training regimen. Have any ideas?

Akira: Y'mean, like that thing ya did with the waterfall before?¹

Oscar: That's right. Something good for both the body and soul. I've been looking for another activity of that sort, but…

Akira: Then how about bouldering?!

It makes a great breather, it's a good workout, and it's loads of fun!

Oscar: Ah, your hobby, right? It could be worth a shot, but is it really intense enough to work for training?

Akira: Tsk tsk… don't ya think you're takin’ bouldering too lightly, Oscar?

Just follow me, I'll crush those doubts for ya!

Akira: WHOO! I'M AT MAX VOLTAGE!!

 

Oscar: Hold on a second, Akira. Just why did you drag me out so far… and what's this rope connecting us for?

Akira: Hehehe. See that cliff? We're gonna climb it ♪

Oscar: That cliff? Isn't it a little high?

Akira: Well, that's what the rope’s for! It's our lifeline. Ya can never be too safe, as they say.

Oscar: Huh…

Seems worth a challenge.

Akira: Right?! I knew you’d come around!

Oscar: However… it appears rather difficult indeed.

Akira: As long as I'm here, ya have nothin’ to worry about ♪ I'll keep track of the route, so just count on me if ya need anythin'!

Ah, but make sure ya use the rope to keep me up if I fall!

Oscar: … Of course. Just leave it to me.

Cliff climbing man: That cliff's not some walk in the park. It's known to give even the pros trouble.

Oscar: Are you also here to climb?

Cliff climbing man: That's right… Look, I'm saying this for your own good. That cliff's not for amateurs.

Akira: Just who are ya callin’ an “amateur”?! Just so ya know, all my bouldering friends call me “Akira the Hercules”! Just you wait until ya see what I got up there!²

Oscar: I'm an amateur… Well, you never know until until you give it a shot.

Cliff climbing man: … Don't say I didn't warn you.

Oscar: WOOOAAAAAH!!

Akira: Shit, we fell again! How many times is this now?!

Oscar: I can certainly see why even pros struggle with this cliff. This won't be an easy battle…

But that's exactly what I wanted. 

Even so, you shouldn't push yourself so hard, Akira. There's no way you can jump that high up.

Akira: Yes I can! I'm just a little bit off!

Oscar: Akira…

Akira: Besides, it's fine if I push myself a little, right? Since you'll be there to help me back up no matter what ♪

 

Oscar: … Someone's feeling confident.

Alright. I'm right behind you, so just go and jump with all your might. 

I think you might just be able to pull it off.

Akira: Hehe, of course I can! I'm always runnin’ on full throttle, as the “Akira the Hercules!”

I'll nail it next time, so make sure to keep me up there!

Oscar: Leave it to me. We haven't fallen this many times for nothing.

Akira: Here goes nothin’…

Oscar: NOW!!

Cliff climbing man: … With that level of persistence and trust, they might actually have this in the bag.

Akira: We're startin’ to see the summit, but my arms are shaking like crazy…

Oscar: I'm not sure how much more I have left in me either. But this is great exercise.

I'd like reach the top all at once, but it'll definitely be a struggle.

Akira: Yeah. We're still pretty far, and there aren't a lotta footholds either… Did I choose the wrong route?

Oscar: No, this was the best route by far. We're just going to have to power through the rest of the way.

Akira: That's all we can do. Ya still got some fightin’ spirit left, right, Oscar?

Oscar: Of course. We've already it made so far despite our setbacks. There's no way I can give up now.

Akira: Hehe, alrighty then… Put your hand there—

Ah…!

(Shit, we'll have to start all over now…!)

Oscar: … Not on my watch!!

Akira: Oscar!!

Oscar: I've figured the tricks to this after falling so many times. I won't let you fall any lower.

Akira: Thanks a bunch, Oscar!

Oscar: We're almost there… Let's go, Akira!

Akira: Alright! I'm all revved up…!

Oscar: I'll pull you back up! Use the momentum to head to the top!

Akira: Ya bet! I'll reach as far as I can… This is all I've got!!

Oscar: UOOOHH!!

Akira: VOLTAAAAGE!!!!

Oscar: MAAAAAX!!!!

Akira: We… made it…!!

Oscar: I'm coming up too, Akira! I'll surpass my limits… UOOHH!!

Cliff climbing man: They… They actually did it. What a pair!

Akira: Whew… That was wild…!

 

Oscar: That… made some great training. Ah, the feeling of my body screaming in pain…

Cliff climbing man: That was something else. I guess they don't call you “Akira the Hercules” for nothing.

Akira: Hehe, nothing's a challenge if it's the two of us!!

Oscar: Normally, I'd be telling you not to get carried away, but… right now, I feel the same.

My daily efforts must've paid off… I've never done this before, but I felt like I really brought my all… no, went beyond that.

Activities like this really make for good training. I think this will be the newest addition to my training repertoire.

Akira: Hehe, guess I crushed those doubts for ya ♪

So? It was a blast, right?

Oscar: … Yes.

Now I want to try out some other locations. Perhaps I'll look into some when we get home.

Akira: Alright! Let's conquer every cliff in New Million… no, the world!

Oscar: Right there with you.

Cliff climbing man: Someone's ambitious! If the boy's “Akira the Hercules”, then I guess you'd be “Oscar the Neptune”.³

Akira: WOA~~~H! Neptune, huh! That's sick!!

Oscar: Being told that's a bit embarrassing, but… the praise doesn't feel half bad.

1. I believe this is a reference to Oscar's Ninja hero story (which I haven't read ><). The "waterfall thing" in question is the act of standing under a waterfall. ↑

2. Hercules (or Heracles) is a famous figure in Greek and Roman mythology, known for his impressive feats of strength. Although I'm not aware of any connection he had to climbing, there are some legends that state he had to cross the mountain that was once Atlas. ↑

3. I believe "Neptune" is a reference to the Roman god of the sea, Neptune, although I have no clue what connections he has to climbing. ↑
